I've managed to complete letters A to C (by author) of the book list - obviously this is much more work than I anticipated :( But since this is a labour of love I don't mind. I've marked all the books that are autographed by the authors (quite a few of those) and those that include a music CD. ...Jatkuu »

Today I start adding a bunch of new releases on the new reissue label Reel Recordings, which brings back to life some amazing stuff from the 1970s both previously unreleased and released at the time but long since unavailable. This is mostly quite weird stuff and covers Avant-Rock, Jazz (mostly Free) and Improvised Music – exactly the sort of music that is worth listening to:

Kevin Ayers – “Hyde Park Free Concert 1970”

After leaving the Soft Machine (of which he was a founding member) and recording the debut solo album (“Joy Of A Toy”), guitarist / singer / composer Kevin Ayers formed the Whole World band to record his second album (“Shooting At The Moon”) and support its release by touring. ...Jatkuu »

It’s time to return to the fantastic Vocalion label and add the rest of their catalog, which was mostly added last month. Here is the first in the new batch:

    Terry Durham – “Crystal Telephone”

Writer, poet and painter Terry Durham recorded this one-off, strangely beautiful album for the Deram label and disappeared from sight. ...Jatkuu »

Maynard Ferguson – “M. F. Horn 2 / The Ballad Style Of Maynard Ferguson”

A short break in the new batch of Vocalion additions to introduce a couple of albums on the splendid Hux label and especially this new release, which brings to life an album hoped would be released for years:

    Harold McNair – “The Fence”

Saxophonist / flautist / composer Harold McNair has been one of the greatest (and sadly unsung) heroes of the British Jazz scene. ...Jatkuu »

Back to the new batch of Vocalion additions, which are just phenomenal:

John Surman – “How Many Clouds Can You See?”

2nd solo release by saxophonist / composer John Surman and one of the most pivotal recordings of the era, which defines modern British Jazz. If Surman was still searching for a clear direction on his debut album, recorded just a year earlier, he surely found it here. ...Jatkuu »

Here is the next addition from the new batch of Vocalion additions, which are just phenomenal:

The title of the debut album by saxophonist / composer Alan Skidmore is indeed appropriate for the occasion, as this is a recording of such beauty and excellence, that is happens extremely rarely. ...Jatkuu »

One Day Sale - One More Time

jazzis kirjoitti noin 17 vuotta sitten+/- saldo : 0
Following the Friday’s “One Day Sale” I received yesterday about 200 emails from customers claiming that they missed the sale, that the sale was not on weekend when they have time, etc.

I guess it’s very difficult to make everybody happy, no matter how much one may try…

Anyway I decided to give it another go for a few more hours, for all of those people who missed it:

The sale starts now and ends today at midnight (PST) Sunday March 2nd, 2008.

The sale offers a 15 % discount on ALL ITEMS.

The discount applies on the already reduced Sale items, which are all full-price items, all out of print by now. ...Jatkuu »

One Day Only Sale - February 29 - 15 % discount on all items

jazzis kirjoitti noin 17 vuotta sitten+/- saldo : 0
As all of you know I haven’t made any sale offers on the Jazzis Web Shop for over 6 months now, although I get constantly asked when the next sale offer will be. Honestly I think my prices are already quite attractive and as I don’t have any overstocks, no sale offer is justified. ...Jatkuu »

    ALBUM

The last addition for February is another great classic of British Jazz, the debut album by Harry Beckett. February was a total British Jazz month with 28 new splendid additions (and of course one Harold Rubin). So here it is:

    Harry Beckett – “Flare Up”

Trumpeter / composer Harry Beckett was one of the pillars of the British Jazz in the 1960s / 1970s. ...Jatkuu »
